Under direction from the Baseball Canada National Umpires Committee (NUC), the GrassRoots Development Program has undertaken this project in support of umpire recruitment and retention. As noted by the Baseball Canada Provincial Umpire Supervisors, the main issue is a lack of umpires both in recruiting them and retaining them.
Resources, information and strategies have been collected and a Recruitment and Retention Toolkit has been assembled. The intent is that this ToolKit will be a living resource, with information updated regularly. The goal is to share resources to support local associations, local UIC (Umpire in Chiefs), supervisors, etc. The key to the Toolkit is that there are various tools and strategies to choose from, it gives the freedom to choose what works best for your organization.
